Full Itinerary

Highlights:  Panoramic Route, God’s Window, Blyde River Canyon, Kruger National Park, Open Vehicle Sunset Game Drive, Full Day Open Vehicle Game Drive, Bilene Turtles, Barra Reef Beach, Ocean Safari, Tofo Beach

Day 1: Panoramic Route (South Africa)

Departing early from Johannesburg we head off the plateau towards the Panoramic Route, stopping en-route for breakfast (own cost).  Once in the Panorama region we will see some stunning views at God’s Window and the Blyde River Canyon.  Leaving the beauty of the 3rd largest canyon in the world we will make our way to our overnight stop, Timbavati Safari Lodge (just a short drive from the world famous Kruger National Park).

Day 2: Kruger National Park

Leaving after breakfast we make our way to the Kruger National Park, home to 147 mammal (including the Big 5), 114 reptile, & 502 bird species.

Once through the gates of the Kruger we will be on the lookout for wildlife en route to our camp.  After setting up camp you will have a chance to relax for a couple of hours before heading out on an evening sunset game drive with your experienced Kruger National Park guide.  This drive lasts between 3 and 3.5 hours, which gives you the opportunity to see plenty of wildlife.  On your return your guide will have dinner ready for you.

Day 3: Kruger National Park

Starting the day early you will head out on a full day’s open vehicle game drive with an experienced Kruger guide, who will drop you off back at camp in the afternoon.

A second optional sunset game drive, or a night game drive, can be arranged should you wish (own cost).

Day 4: South Africa – Mozambique (Bilene)

After breakfast we leave the Kruger National Park and make our way to Mozambique.  After the border procedures we will make our way up to beautiful Bilene, a small town surrounded by inland lakes.  This evening we will enjoy a typical Mozambican dinner at the on-site restaurant.

Day 5: Bilene

After an early morning swim in the clear waters of the inland lake that stretches for 27 km, breakfast is served, after which you can relax on the beach at our campsite.  Later on we will take a boat trip across the lake to the beaches of the Indian Ocean, and then your local guide will take you on a walk to the sandy cliffs of Bilene where you will have the opportunity to spot the turtles that make this area their home.  The rest of the day you can swim in the warm lake waters, and watch the local fisherman bring in their catch.  This is an excellent time to immerse yourself in their culture and get to know how the locals live.  There is a local market where you can find an assortment of curios, and a walk through the town is a must.

Days 6, 7: Barra Reef Beach

After waking up to the sounds of the Indian Ocean we will enjoy a hearty tropical breakfast. We will then journey north to the town of Inhambane, with one of the best curio markets in Mozambique.  After a visit to the market, we will head towards the beaches of Barra Reef.  The warm tropical waters of Barra attract many species of fish and other sea dwelling creatures such as Green and Leather-back Turtles, Manta Rays and the Whale Shark, the majestic giant of the sea.  If you would like to learn how to surf, you will have the opportunity to take some classes.  The diving here is world class; if you are not already a diver, why not try a resort course?

Days 8, 9: Tofo Beach

Leaving Barra Reef a short drive takes us to Tofo Beach.  The days here are spent lazing in the sun, swimming in the tropical sea, playing beach volleyball and walking down to the beach bar for sundowners.  The small town of Tofo also has its own small curio and food market and one or two restaurants where they serve great seafood and other local dishes typical of Mozambique.  Your guide will organize your Ocean Safari for you whilst here, which is included in the tour.

Day 10: Mozambique – South Africa (Marloth Park)

After time spent on the pristine beaches, our journey takes us back to South Africa, bypassing Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique.  Once across the border, it is just a short drive to Marloth Park, where we will spend the night.

Marloth Park is a wildlife sanctuary close to the Kruger National Park, where you are very likely to see animals such as warthog and impala in the streets and gardens.  This being the last night of the tour, we will enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants.

Day 11: Return to Johannesburg

Leaving Marloth Park after breakfast we make our way back to Johannesburg, where the tour ends.
