Full Itinerary

Highlights:  Khama Rhino Sanctuary, Okavango Delta, , Chobe National Park, Victoria Falls

Countries Visited:  South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe

 

Day 1: South Africa – Botswana (Khama Rhino Sanctuary)

Departing early morning, the road takes us through the Waterberg, across the border into Botswana, and then on to the Khama Rhino Sanctuary.  The sanctuary is a community-based wildlife project established in 1992 to assist in saving the vanishing rhinoceros, amongst other animal species, as well as to provide economic benefits to the local community through tourism and the sustainable use of natural resources.  Late afternoon we will go on a game drive in the sanctuary.

Day 2: Maun

Leaving early morning the road takes us north through this semi desert country.  The drive takes us through the central Kalahari and then up to Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta.  Once in camp your guide will explain the do’s and don’ts of the Okavango Delta.

Days 3, 4: Okavango Delta                                          

Leaving the world behind us we make our way into the Okavango Delta for the bush experience of a life time.  The 4×4 vehicles will take us into the Delta and the drive will take us through the Mopani forest before getting to the edge of the Delta.  Once in the Delta we’ll settle down into our Mokoros (dug-out canoes).  Whilst our guides pole us down the waterways of this 14000 sq km wildlife wilderness, we can enjoy the tranquility of the Delta.  Our camp is somewhere in the wilderness.  Walking safaris and wildlife are on our doorstep for you to enjoy.

Day 5: Gweta                                             

After a last walk in the wilderness we will make our way back to the Mokoro station where the 4×4 vehicles will collect us and take us back to the main camp in Maun.  From here we make our way east toward Nata,

but we stop of for a night on the pans that are in the Gweta area. This is a fantastic night out on the pans and one of the best places in the world to sleep out in the wilderness. With the night sounds around you and a campfire will make you feel the the people of the past that used to live on the pans

Day 6: Chobe National Park

Getting back from the night on the pans, we make our way up to the Chobe NP area. Arriving late afternoon you have some time to explore the town or relax at the pool for the day. Your guide will explain the exciting activities for the next day

Day 7: Chobe National Park

After a early morning cup of coffee your guide will pick you up for your early morning game drive into the Chobe national park. The chobe area is home to 30% of the endangered African Wild dog. Chobe also has a big elephant and Buffalo population so there are many predatory animals in the area.

Once back in camp you guide will have a hearty breakfast ready for you where after you can relax for a few hours

This afternoon we will embark on a river cruise on the Chobe River, widely thought of as being one of the best river cruises in Africa.  Apart from a huge variety of birdlife, you may also see crocodile, hippos, and probably even elephants washing and playing in the water.

Day 8:  Botswana – Zimbabwe (Victoria Falls)

We leave after breakfast today and make our way further north towards the Zimbabwe border post.  This drive takes us through the Kasane forest where we always see herds of elephants and also very often a variety of antelopes and sometimes lion, hyena and wild dog.  From the border we drive another hour to the vibrant town of Victoria Falls where we will be spending the next 2 nights.  Our camp is situated in the middle of town, within 10 minutes walking distance of just about everything.  Your guide will assist you with the bookings of optional activities.  The US dollar is the currency to use in Victoria Falls / Zimbabwe.

This afternoon we will visit the magnificent Victoria Falls National Park, one of the seven natural wonders of the world.  The Falls are 1700 meters (1.1 miles) wide, making it the largest sheet of falling water in the world.

Later on today we will head out on a sunset cruise on the beautiful Zambezi River, the 4th largest river in the world, and the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, with national parks on either side.  You have a great opportunity to see animals coming down to the river for a drink, as well as a fantastic variety of bird life.  We often see elephants, zebra, blue wildebeest, rhino, buffalo and a variety of antelope species.  Obviously hippo and crocodile are plentiful in this region.  All soft drinks, wine, beer and some snacks are included in the cruise.

Day 9:  Victoria Falls

Today is free for you to spend as you please.  Victoria Falls and the surrounding areas offer a great variety of things to see and do.  You will have plenty of time to explore the town, meet the locals, visit the African markets with their wide variety of arts and crafts made from wood, stone and beads, or to relax by the pool at the campsite in the heat of the day.  The Victoria Falls region is nicknamed the adventure capital of Africa for a reason.  It is well known for its large variety of fantastic activities such as the best one day white water rafting in the world, the 111 meter bungee jump off the bridge between Zimbabwe and Zambia, elephant back and horse riding safaris, flights over the waterfall, canoe safaris, fishing trips, game walks, abseiling, gorge swings and much more.

Day 10 Nata

Leaving Victoria Falls we make our way back to Botswana through the Zambezi National park, on way you may even have the chance to see the wildlife on the way to the border. Wild dogs are often seen along the road

Once through the border the road takes you south for a few hours before arriving at the camp in Nata. Nata lodge is on the edge of the Makgadigadi Pan and Bird Sanctuary.

Late afternoon a game drive into the Makgadigadi pan will bring the day to an end

Day 11 Botswana-South Africa

Departing early morning we make our way back down through Botswana to South Africa. Once through the border we make our way to our to our lodge for the night. Situated in the African bush in the Waterberg are of South Africa. You can go for a walk in the surrounding area of the lodge. This is a game farm so you may see some of the wildlife you missed on tour

Day 12 Johannesburg

This is the last morning of the tour and your guide will have prepared you a awesome South African Breakfast before departing for the city. After a few hours your guide will drop you off at the airport or your preferred hotel
