Full Itinerary

Highlights: Swaziland, Hlane National Park, Umphakatsi Cultural Village, Barra Beach, Ocean Safari, Bazaruto Archipelago, Island Day Tour, Turtles in Bilene, Kruger National Park, Panoramic Route, God’s Window, Blyde River Canyon and Bourke’s Luck Pot Holes.

Day 1: South Africa-Swaziland

Departing early from Johannesburg, we head towards the incredible Lubombo mountains, to overnight either in Hlane Royal National Park, or Mlawula Nature Reserve.

Encompassing an area of 22,000 hectares, Hlane Royal National Park is home to lion, elephant, white rhino, giraffe and many other species; including the most concentrated population of nesting white backed vultures in Africa. The word Hlane means “wilderness” in the local language siSwati, and the rugged natural surrounds are beautiful and unique.

Mlawula Nature Reserve covers an area of 16,500 hectares. With the beautiful Lubombo mountain range running along its boundary, the reserve is a sight to behold. Because of its combination of low-lying ranges and mountain escarpment, Mlawula contains a great diversity of flora and fauna – including 350 of the 500 species of birds found in the entire nation of Swaziland.

Day 2: Swaziland

The Umphakatsi, or Chief Village, is an authentic homestead that models the traditional way of life. The residents will share their culture and traditions, demonstrating age old practices.

This rich and colourful culture is transmitted verbally from one generation to the next. You may be given the opportunity to participate in a dance that forms part of marriage and other significant ceremonies; such as the Umhlanga (Reed Dance) and Lusekwane (cutting of sickle bush for the King’s Royal Kraal).

In the evening you have the option of a guided sunset game drive in an open safari vehicle in Hlane Royal National Park.

Day 3 Swaziland-Mozambique

Departing early from Swaziland we make our way to the border between Swaziland and Mozambique. From the border we bypass the capital and head up towards Xai-xai town our camp is 50 kilometers north of the town.

The lodge offers you a few activities such as Whale watching in the winter months, Fishing, Cultural tour, Snorkeling and Kayaking

Day 4 Bazaruto Archipelago-Mozambique

The road continues north from here, where the coconut trees take up most of the space in this once forgotten country. We make our way up to the Bazaruto Archipelago, where the islands give you a feeling once only experienced by the explorers of the past. A Dhow trip out to one of the islands will be organized for day 5.

Day 5 Bazaruto Archipelago-Mozambique

After breakfast your guide will take you down to the office to meet your local guides for the day. Once on the Dhow you will have time to relax and take in the surrounds while on the Dhow ride out to one of the Islands for the day. Our local guides will cook us a feast on the beach for lunch. Snorkeling at one of the reefs in the area is a must, with its many species of fish, and, at times, the Green and Leather-Back Turtles and Manta Rays. Fresh seafood and catch of the day are one of the attractions of this area. Dugongs (Manatees) and Flamingoes are also seen at certain times of the year in the waters of the archipelago.

You will return from the island early afternoon in time to explore a bit of the town

Day 6 Vilanculos

Your guide will have informed you about all the extra activities that Vilanculos has to offer you for the day or you can relax and enjoy the beaches and have some time to interact with the locals. There is lots to do and see in this area

Besides the great Archipelago, Inland Delta Wetlands & Waterways is fast becoming one of the main attractions.

You can also go out fishing for the morning and Vilanculos has some of the best game fishing in the Mozambique channel. Most big game fishing is on a catch and release bases.

For the evening they also offer you a canoe trip that returns around 20H00 and on this trip you’ll see the fire flies that light up the area at night

Day 7 Barra Beach

Leaving Vilanculos early morning we make our way south through the country side and then through the coconut plantations.

We stop of along the way for a break at the Tropical of Capricorn and there is many places to take awesome photos of the country. We stop of at the market in Inhambane for shopping before making our way to the beach. Once on the beach you have more than enough time to enjoy the beach for the afternoon

Your guide will inform you about the activities they have on offer in the Barra and will also book your ocean safari for one of the days while in Barra. Tonight your guide will have arranged a traditional Mozambique meal for you

Day 8 Barra Beach

Barra is one of the places you should not miss the sunrise over the ocean. Also you can observe the local fishermen catching fish they used hundreds of years ago with the Dhows.

If the weather is suitable for your ocean safari your guide will inform you and the usual leaving time is 11h00. The ocean safari takes you out for around two hours and on most ocean safaris you see Dolphins, Whales, Mantas and at times you may even have the opportunity to swim with Whale Sharks

Day 9 Barra- Tofo

Today is a free day for you to enjoy the day and the many activities they offer in the area. Horse riding, Quad biking, mangrove safari and scuba diving. Your guide will also take you over to Tofo for some market shopping and the show you the town.

Day 10 Macaneta-Mozambique

Leaving Barra behind us we make our way south through the country too our next peace of Paradise, Macaneta Beach.

With the Nkomati River and the Indian Ocean as its borders, Macaneta is the jewel in the crown of the Maputo province, and for centuries has fulfilled the role of weekend getaway and holiday destination for locals and even former colonialists.  Macaneta offers pristine beaches, whale watching, game fishing and it is also home to the delicate breeding grounds of the giant leatherback turtle.

Day 11 Mozambique-Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park

Leaving Macaneta Beach  we make our way to the border of Mozambique bypassing the capital Maputo. Once across the border its an short drive to the entrance of the Kruger National Park. From the gate we do a short game drive before arriving at the camp with in the Kruger NP.

The Kruger National Park is home to 147 mammal (including the Big 5), 114 reptile, & 502 bird species.

Once inside the Kruger we will be on the lookout for wildlife en route to our camp. After setting up camp you will have a chance to relax for a couple of hours before heading out on an evening sunset drive with your experienced Kruger National Park guide. This drive lasts between 3 and 3.5 hours, which gives you the opportunity to see plenty of wildlife. On your return your guide will have dinner ready for you.

Day 12 Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park

Starting the day early your guide will have a packed breakfast ready for you before you head out on a full day’s open vehicle game drive with an experienced Kruger park guide. Your game drive will take you through the southern parts of the park and remember to take your camera along. Wildlife is on the top of our list today and you may come across the Big 5 Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Leopard and Lion. Your game drive guide will drop you back in your camp around 15H30. Should you wish to do more game drives there is the opportunity to do a late night game drive

Day 13 Blyde River-South Africa

This morning there is the opportunity for you to do a walking safari(Own Cost) Please ask you guide about it and he will help you book it. Leaving after breakfast we make our way up through the park.

Once we exit the park the road take you up to God’s window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Blyde river canyon.

Its a short drive to your overnight stop Blyde river resort

Day 14 Johannesburg

After a late start to the day you enjoy a restaurant breakfast before departing for Johannesburg. The drive takes you through the high veld. Your guide will stop along the way for you to have lunch.

You arrive back in Johannesburg late afternoon and you guide will drop you of at your hotel or the airport on your request
